"Aussie Rules Schools" article from The Australian Times in 2006:Aussie Rules UK and Teaching Personnel have joined forces to introduce Australian Football to schools throughout London. The program is called Aussie Rules Schools and has been such a success that already one London school has dropped soccer from its curriculum and replaced it with Aussie Rules.
Carshalton Boys Sports College has so far put more than 500 students through the Aussie Rules Schools program, which is being delivered by Aussie Rules UK. Teaching Personnel has sponsored Aussie Rules UK in recognition of the huge value that Australian teachers bring to UK schools and pupils. Client schools of Teaching Personnel are repeatedly impressed with the enthusiasm and attitude exhibited by Australian supply teachers.
In addition to financial support Teaching Personnel is carrying out the recruitment and vetting procedures required to recruit Australian teachers to coach Aussie rules football in UK schools. Teaching Personnel's recognition of Australian teaching quality has also lead them to introduce an exceptional recruitment campaign to recruit Australian teachers seeking supply work in London and the rest of the UK. The campaign is entitled: 'TP's Grand Introduction'.
As well as potential Aussie Rules coaches, Teaching Personnel is seeking to recruit teachers of all subjects and age groups in order to meet the demand for supply teachers from their client schools. Teachers are paid at highly competitive rates, and in addition, once the teacher has worked 100 days through TP they are paid an additional £1,000 on the first day of the following (UK) summer holiday.
Aussie Rules UK was established in London in April 2005 and is supported by both Sport England and the UK Minister of Sport. Its major aim in introducing Aussie Rules to UK schools is to use its novelty appeal and focus on participation and fun to help reduce the growing rate of childhood obesity.
