9-a-side

9-a-side Rules is a new and exciting version of Australian Football. The format is very simple, the game is short, the rules modified and the focus is on FUN.

All skills are utilised in Aussie Rules including kicking, marking, handballing and bouncing.

The game is non-contact and the rules are designed to encourage this - you cannot grab or bump another player.

Aim

To score more goals than your opponents by kicking the ball between the goal posts.

How?

  • Teams consist of 3 forwards, 3 centres and 3 backs.
  • No tackling is allowed.
  • Goals can only be kicked by players in the forward zone.

Skills

The game emphasises running, agility and ball handling skills such as kicking, bouncing, handballing and marking.

Equipment

A major advantage of Aussie Rules is that it can be played almost anywhere, whether on soccer fields, rugby fields or open parkland. This is due to the fact that the entire field, from goalposts to footballs, can be stored in a specially designed equipment bag ('Aussie Rules Pack') and easily carried over the shoulder. Aussie Rules Packs contain the following:

  • Goal & Behind Posts
  • Plastic Field Markers (no marking of the field is required)
  • Footballs
  • Bibs to designate forwards
  • Football Pump
  • Umpire Whistle
  • Laminated Rules
