Aussie Rules UK will run the following events in 2007:
Friendlies |
Aussie Rules UK can arrange "friendlies" at various times throughout the season (which runs from April to September). Off-season games may also be arranged. Aussie Rules UK also has close contact with clubs and leagues throughout Europe for those looking for a "friendly" somewhere a little more exotic! |
Aussie Rules 9s (Pre-season Cup) |
Open to all teams throughout the country. 9-a-side with no player classification restrictions. Games consist of 2 x 10 minute halves. A group stage is followed by semi finals and Final. All games are played over the course of one day. |
UK Cup |
Similar format to the Pre-season Cup except that only UK players are permitted. Australians are not allowed to play. This day forms an important part of the selection procedure for the English Dragonslayers national squad. |
London Youth Games |
This is Europe's largest junior sports tournament and, as in 2005 & 2006, Aussie Rules UK will be running the Australian football section. Competing teams are drawn from London high schools. The best players will be chosen to represent the England schoolboys national team. |
National League |
This is the main focus of the season. We are aiming to have 8-10 games played throughout the season against teams in your division, including a Finals series whereby the top finishing teams in each Division play off for the Champions title. |
EU Cup |
The highlight of the Aussie Rules Europe calendar. Teams are 9-a-side, open to locals and Australians. Matches are played over a weekend. The 2005 EU Cup was hosted by ARUK in London and was attended by the following 10 countries – Israel, Catalonia, Germany, Belgium, Austria, England, Sweden, Scotland, France and the Netherlands. |
England Dragonslayers national team |
All UK registered players qualify for selection in the national representative team, the England Dragonslayers. The national team competes in the Tri-nations series (England, Scotland, Wales to be held in 2007), and the EU Cup. We are seeking to enter an England team in the AFL International Cup (unofficial "World Cup" excluding Australia) in Melbourne in 2008. |
