
Official Rules
1. Playing Field
Regulation soccer field. The field shall be approximately 100m x 70m.
2. Teams
A. Teams shall consist of 9 players on the field and a maximum of 6 reserves.
B. Interchange of players may take place at any time.
C. Teams shall consist of 3 forwards, 3 centres, 2 backs and 1 goalkeeper.
D. At the start of play and after each goal, the center players must line up in the centre circle.
E. To prevent congestion, the forwards and backs must line up in the goal area at the start of play and after each goal.
F. Apart from (D) and (E) players can go anywhere on the field and there is no off-side.
3. Playing Time
4 x 15 minute quarters.
4. Start of Play
A. The game shall be started by a ball-up between two players in the centre circle.
B. A player may not grab the ball at the ball-up and play on. They must knock or palm the ball and cannot play the ball again until it has been touched
by another player.
C. After a goal, the ball is taken to the centre and restarted as in (A).
5. Out of Bounds
A. When the ball goes out of bounds by either foot or hand, the nearest opponent shall kick or handball the ball in.
B. If there is doubt as to which team forced the ball out of bounds, the umpire shall throw the ball up.
6. Corners
A. If the ball goes over the boundary line after having been touched by either the goalkeeper or member of the defending team, a corner will result.
B. The player taking the corner must kick or handball the ball back into play
7. Tackling
Full tackling (above the knees and below the shoulders) applies. Shepherding within 3m is permitted.
8. Marking
Any player catching a ball directly from the kick of another player, provide the ball has travelled at least 10 metres, shall be awarded a mark.
9. Bouncing the Ball
A player in possession may bounce the ball only once.
10. Kicking Off the Ground
A player is not permitted to deliberately kick the ball off the ground.
11. Scoring
A. Six points will be awarded for a goal. There are no behinds.
B. To score a goal the ball must be kicked into the goal area – throwing or handpassing the ball is not allowed.
12. Penalties
A. If, in the opinion of the umpire, a player is about to score whilst in the goalkeeper’s box, and a foul is committed against him, the umpire shall
award a penalty to that player.
B. The penalty must be taken from the penalty spot, and the ball must be kicked out of the hands, not placed on the ground.
